Thomas Reis is looking forward to his return to the coaching bench in the district derby at Borussia Dortmund on Saturday (3:30 p.m. / Sky). “I’m really happy that I can be on the line again in Dortmund,” said the head coach of VfL Bochum, who was banned from the interior last Sunday in the 0-2 draw against FC Augsburg because of a red card.
After the Corona break in the game against Borussia Mönchengladbach, it was the second game that he was not able to spend with his team. “Neither is nice for a coach. It’s not easy if you can’t and aren’t allowed to help,” said Reis, who is proud to be in the stadium in front of such a crowd for the first time as head coach. “We have a great derby ahead of us and a big task ahead of us,” said the VfL coach.
Nevertheless, it is still about staying in the class for his team. In purely mathematical terms, the relegation rank with an eight-point lead three laps before the end is not entirely out of sight. And Reis doesn’t see his team without a chance. “We’re up against an opponent with a lot of speed and great switching. But we also want to create our chances to score, and we’re able to do that,” said the coach.
Bochum still have to do without the suspended Konstantinos Stafylidis and Bruno Soares (hip problems). Herbert Bockhorn could take over the left-back position.
