The coach of the men’s national handball team, Giorgos Zaravinas, spoke about the difficulty of tomorrow’s match against Croatia, in the premiere of the Euro 2024 qualifiers.
The Greek national team in men’s handball enters tomorrow (12/10, 19:00) in the battle of the EURO 2024 qualifiers, against the mighty Croatia away from home.
A match which is the most difficult that our representative group could have in the premiere, with the federal coach, however, George Zaravinakeeping in mind the positive result, but also for the team to maintain the competitive profile it has built over the last 12 months.
“For us it is essential to maintain the gains from the previous qualifiers. The homogeneity, the support of the people who embraced this effort, the “want” of the children and their conscious decision to make the National team their priority. On a competitive level we want to keep the tough image we have in defence, which gives us energy and is our strong element in combination with the goalkeepers. We therefore want to spread this good image and our identity” said the federal coach.
“Croatia is a superpower that needs no introduction. In this first fight we will have to survive, endure and claim what is ours. We want this performance to be a stepping stone and a good start in view of the very difficult match we have on Sunday against the Netherlands in Chalkida. From the fact that we recently made it to the playoffs to qualify for the Worlds, there will surely now be better scouting for our team than the opponents. They will certainly not come in relaxed thinking they have a finished match, their concentration and preparation will be to a greater extent because obviously everyone realizes that we are a formidable opponent. This in itself is a profit for the National Team” he added George Zaravinaswho also noted that his players go into the match with increased confidence.
“Children’s self-confidence is another important gain. In recent years we have faced big teams. From now on we shouldn’t go into any game and feel like a loser, regardless of the size of the opponent. We don’t want to be concerned with who we play, but to constantly seek improvement, to keep our good elements, to fix our weaknesses and to put on the field the image of a team that knows what it wants, has a certain way of playing and all that to give us the specifications to claim victories” he said characteristically.
In closing, O Zaravina he focused on what imprint he wants to leave as a coach on our representative group.
“The burning desire of the entire sport is for the National team to participate in a major event and it would be a dream come true to succeed. I personally dream of a National team at a high level, with even more young athletes. It seems that this perspective exists, as long as these younger athletes themselves work and understand that when they come to the National Team they should be absolutely ready. I also want a National team that year after year will become more and more the official favorite of the whole sport. I feel that the National Team can now find solutions in some positions where there was a problem in the past” he said.
