The Romanian women’s team was defeated by Hong Kong, the world number three, with a score of 3-2, on Wednesday, in the round of 16 of the World Team Table Tennis Championships in Chengdu (China).
Romania, the European vice-champion and number six in the world rankingwas led 2-0, managed to equalize, but Elizabeta Samara lost the decisive match in a big fight.
Bernadette Szocs and Elizabeta Samara started with the left
In the first game, Bernadette Socs lost 2-3 (10-12, 11-5, 18-16, 3-11, 10-12) the duel with Chengzhu Zhu, after leading 2-1 in sets.
Elizabeth Samara lost 1-3 (9-11, 7-11, 11-8, 6-11) in the match against Hoi Kem Doo.
Adina Diaconu and the same Bernadette Szocs signaled the return
Adina Deacon brought the first point of the tricolors, after 3-1 (11-8, 12-14, 11-6, 15-13) with Ho Ching Lee, and Bernadette Socs equalized, after defeating Hoi Kem Doo 3-1 (11-5, 11-9, 5-11, 11-6).
Elizabeta Samara, badly defeated in the decider: 11-6, 11-13, 11-4, 7-11 and 9-11
In the last match, Elizabeth Samara lost the match with Chengzhu Zhu, score 2-3 (11-6, 11-13, 11-4, 7-11, 9-11), although he led 1-0 and 2-1 in sets.
Hong Kong beat Romania 3-1 in the quarter-finals of the Tokyo Olympics last year, going on to win the bronze medals.
