Chile and Peru ask CAS to exclude Ecuador from the World Cup
“The appeal submitted by the Peruvian federation is against the Ecuadorian federation and FIFA. The Peruvian forum is demanding that Ecuador be excluded from the 2022 World Cup and replaced by Peru, the second-best team. The appeal submitted by the Chilean federation is against the Ecuadorian federation, the player Byron David Castillo Segura and FIFA.
The federation asks the CAS to say that the player was ineligible for the eight matches played in the qualifiers, to declare the matches lost on the green table and to place Chile in 4th place in the South American qualifiers for the WC”stated TAS, on the official website.
The two federations requested that TS take a decision in advance of November 10.
On September 15, FIFA Appeals Committee rejected the appeals filed by Chile and Peruwhich disputed the validity of the Ecuadorian nationality of footballer Byron Castillo, used in the World Cup preliminaries.
In an extensive investigation, the Daily Mail revealed that Byron Castillo, who played eight qualifying matches, would actually be Colombian and was born in 1995 and not 1998. In the records, he would admit that he used a fake passport and obtained a false identity thanks to an intermediary, and the Ecuadorian federation would have covered up this deception.
Chile says that Byron Castillo she was born in Tumaco (Colombia), falsified his documents to prove that he was originally from Beaches (Ecuador) and thus obtain Ecuadorian citizenship, which has been called into question since he entered the sights of Ecuador’s national youth teams. In 2017, the Ecuadorian federation even removed Castillo from the squad for a South American Under 20 tournament due to doubts about his nationality.
