We’re testing the redesigned oneand we confirm once again the interesting personality of the medium SUV of the Czech company.
AccordingKaroq has sold more than half a million units since 2017 that was presented. Its commercial course in these five years is considered positive by its executives, however the time that has passed since then meant the necessity for its renewal.
During this time, the automotive industry, as an industry, underwent significant changes which gave it a new course and they defined the construction framework for the next hundred years in its history.
The event also affected Skoda which quickly adapted to modern conditions, but it did not compromise its interest in its existing models for the sake of electrification. The Karoq is the best proof, as its model is one of the most popular selling in its range.
The fullness of time has come for its renewal, an act which is necessary for every car, However, in Karoq’s case it was not a formality but a substantive change. Its redesign was accompanied by an upgrade of its equipment and build quality.
The new face
The aesthetic changes which were adopted by in the model they made it look more technocratic compared to before, based on the rule now followed by the Volkswagen Group as a whole. In Karoq, ideas we saw were implemented in its new generation both in terms of its design and its equipment.
Now, on the front of it, its grille and grille are wider and hexagonal, while for the first time in the model they are available full-LED lights, even if these are in its optional equipment. Also, the opening in the front bumper it is larger and unified, adding substantially to its overall image.
Its redesigned bumper features newly configured openings for air intake, while the lower part of the body is covered in some places. On the back of it, redesigned are the bumper, the lights (which are LED) and the spoiler. Finally, the design of the wheels has been adapted to the general aesthetics and (they) also contribute to the improvement of aerodynamics.
Accordingthe aerodynamic drag coefficient has been reduced by 9% compared to before and now reaches 0.30. For some, the design changes made the Karoq lose its original tougher character. But, its new look makes it more interesting.
For its interior…
the new elements concern the placement of the system “Virtual Cockpit” in all versions of the model until the end of the year. In it there will be a color screen in place of the instrument panel, the dimension of which will be either 8.0 inch or 10.25 inch, depending on the level of equipment. The touch screen in the center of the console it will measure up to 9.2 inches.
Now, there is interior lighting and on the rear doors, except for the dashboard and front doors as it was until now. The interior lining is made from recycled materials in as many places as possible. In fact, Skoda offers the redesigned Karoq and in the equipment version “Eco pack” in which the wallpaper is from recycled plastic bottles (PET material).
In addition, the design of the steering wheel and the sconce on the front doors are also new. Finally, the optional equipment of the renewed Karoq is available tri-zone air conditioning and the “VarioFlex” system in the rear seat (it consists of three seats which have a ratio of 40:20:40 that can be moved back and forth independently of each other or even completely removed from the vehicle).
In terms of its interconnectivity, provides an e-SIM card so that passengers can travel with the ability to stay online all the time.
Did he also change his driving behavior?
The upgrade it has made it look higher quality than before and this one finds out from the first moment he finds himself inside it. This feeling makes you wonder if anything has changed in his post as well, comparatively. We remind you that it consists of MacPherson type struts with base scissors and an anti-roll bar at the front and a semi-rigid axle at the rear).
No changes to the post, just the lowest noise level inside the vehicle (due to the better sound insulation) gives the impression that something has changed in it. Its setting is relatively soft and this contributes to passenger comfort both within the city and on a journey. Its absorbency is very good and – as a passenger – this you understand it even better when driving off-road, for example on a dirt road.
As a driver, you easily find the seat that suits you best and you have the main switches close to you. In this particular version of the model the steering wheel has a thick rim and the information the steering system gives you is good for car data.
His driving behavior is safe in any case. Of course, the character of the vehicle and the suspension set-up are such that you cannot find “your limit” (sic) behind the wheel and there is no point in attempting such a thing. However, whenever you decide to move at a relatively brisk pace, the Karoq’s suspension will respond, even if the vehicle leans around corners.
The passengers of the Karoq they sit relatively high, they have good all-round visibility and unparalleled spaciousness for this class of vehicle. The practical cases for small items, the ease of entry into the car and the large trunk are positives, too.
The four-cylinder engine with a capacity of 1.5 liters delivers a maximum power of 150 hp/5,000-6,000 rpm. and a maximum torque of 250 Nm/1,500-3,500 rpm. It has the system «ACT» which deactivates the two middle cylinders whenever the driver does not apply a heavy load to the accelerator pedal, contributing in its own way to fuel economy. In terms of fuel consumption, we measured 8.1L/100km during our test
The seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission it is relatively slow in its changes when the mode is selected «Eco» of the system «Drive Μode», expected of course. This improves both in «Comfort» as mainly in «Sport» configuration. However, the driver has the ability to change the speeds himself and through the lever switches on the steering wheel whenever he wishes.
In conclusion, the redesigned Karoq is more contemporary in design and its new aesthetic “hides” its dimensions more than before. Now, Skoda’s mid-size crossover it seems even more like a profitable option for someone looking for a new car that is well built, spacious and well equipped.
In its specific version, i.e. with the 1.5 TSI engine of 150 hp, the selling price of it starts at 27,900 euros for the version with the six-speed manual transmission. The amount is anything but small (especially in our time and the economic situation we are experiencing), however what it offers absolutely justifies the amount required. The price of the version with automatic transmission seven-speed double clutch starts at 30,900 euros.
