The brave act of the patient proved to be of great importance to the specialists, as playing the saxophone during the operation allowed the Bronia to map different functions in the brain in real time.
“Playing an instrument means you can understand music, which is a high cognitive function. It means how you interact with the instrument, how you can coordinate your two hands, how you can exercise your memory, count – because music is mathematics – how you can check your vision – as the patient must see his instrument – and how you can control the way the patient reacts with the rest of the team” Bronia said.
