November 4 is the most suitable date for holding a referendum in his self-proclaimed People’s Republic Donetsk on the issue of joining Russia, the chairman of the Municipal Chamber of Citizens, Alexander Kofman, told the 24-hour news channel Rossiya-24 on Monday.
«I really like the symbolism of November 4th as National Unity Day. It seems to me that a referendum held today will clearly demonstrate the popular unity of the Donbass, the liberated territories of Ukraine – the Kherson and Zaporizhia regions – and Russia“, he stated.
«Given the difficulties that Ukraine has condemned us to, the ongoing shelling and so on, this vote will certainly take several days. It will not be held over the course of just one day,” Coffman surmised.
He hopes that the leader of the breakaway “Donetsk People’s Republic”, Denis Pushilin, will respond to the appeal regarding the referendum very soon.
Earlier on Monday, at a meeting of the DPR Citizens’ Chamber, Kofman read an appeal to Puslin and the People’s Council (parliament) demanding an immediate referendum on joining Russia.
Prior to this the Political Chamber of the Luhansk People’s Republic called on the leader of the People’s Republic of China Leonid Pashetnik to hold an immediate referendum on the recognition of the republic as a constituent territory of Russia.
According to the appeal, this step will make the territory of the DPRK safe and open new opportunities for its reconstruction.
