The Ministry of Health is proceeding with a decision that will serve thousands of additional citizens, as from today all pathological specialties are included in the institution of the Personal Doctor, which means that a citizen will be able to have his neurologist or rheumatologist as his personal doctor (provided he takes part).
Specifically, today the Minister of Health, Thanos Pleuris, signed today the decision for the inclusion in the institution of the Personal Physician of all pathological specialties.
Which 10 specialties are included in the institution
According to the decision, as Personal Physicians, specialty doctors with basic training in Pathology are also defined, specifically a) hematology, b) gastroenterology, c) endocrinology-diabetology, d) cardiology, e) neurology, f) nephrology, g) rheumatology, ) pathological oncology, i) pulmonology-tuberculology and j) physical medicine and rehabilitation, who practice a liberal profession and maintain a private practice.
It is emphasized that more than 3,800,000 citizens have registered to date with the institution of the Personal Doctor.
Regarding the new specialties that are part of the Personal Doctor, the minister had mentioned this morning speaking to the First Program “the first phase of the Personal Doctor concerned only general practitioners and pathologists, there were 4,000 beneficiaries, 1,200 joined in 1 month. 30% entered, we want them to enter more. We are opening the second phase, which are specialties related to pathological specialties, such as cardiologists, pulmonologists, hematologists. It is a constant request of the Associations as well. Accordingly, there will be a pool of new doctors who will enter the system and in this way basically most of the gaps will have been covered.”
Speaking at length about the institution of the Personal Doctor, he emphasized that no disincentives will be applied from October 1.
Disincentives will not yet apply to citizens
“The registration period never stops, it’s just that from October 1 there would be the implementation of incentives and disincentives. We have said that as long as there is no possibility for the citizen to register without inconvenience to the personal doctor, the disincentives will not be applied, on the contrary, the incentives will be applied. That is, those who register will have priority in their appointments, they will also get the free package of preventive examinations, but the disincentive of increased participation will obviously only be applied when the competence of the doctors is such that the citizen will be able to register” said the minister Health speaking on the First Program of ERT.
The citizen must have more alternatives
According to Thanos Pleuris, in 45 days from the operation of the website, approximately 3.5 million citizens have registered with the institution of the Personal Doctor and 3,200 doctors are included in the system.
“Indeed, we need more doctors because we need the citizen to have more alternatives, but also in Attica, for example, or in some other regions, at the moment the coverage of the population is not what is desired. In all other regions we have a coverage of around 75%, so we can register 1.5 million citizens, except for some islands. In Attica, the coverage is indeed lower,” the Minister of Health pointed out, adding that the process has also been helped by the pharmacies through which, so far, approximately 700,000 citizen registrations with the personal doctor have been made.
Regarding the unvaccinated health workers who remain suspended, Thanos Pleuris said that the re-evaluation of the measure will be done in December with the existing data with two versions: either the suspension will remain or it will be lifted based on the epidemiological data.
