Horizontal subsidy for natural gas, in the standards of last winter, the government decides for the approximately 700,000 households that consume this particular fuel. The information wants the amount of the subsidy to be such that it covers 50% of the price of a kilowatt hour of gas for heating.
In particular, and as sources report, the relevant Ministries of Environment and Energy and Finance seem to arrive at this specific solution as it is not technically possible to adopt a scaled aid model, as will happen for electric current.
Therefore, and according to competent officials, domestic consumers who use natural gas for their heating will be subsidized horizontally this winter season. The amount of the subsidy will be announced every month together with the amount of electricity subsidies and so households will be able to know in advance the subsidies they will receive to reduce their bill.
The technical difficulty in saving natural gas has to do with central heating in apartment buildings. In these cases a single bill comes for the owners or tenants of the apartments and then the total cost is shared.
At the same time, with the uniform state subsidy for natural gas, DEPA Emporias, the public company for the wholesale distribution of fuel, will provide extra discounts to retail gas companies. The latter in turn will pass them on to their customers so that the 700,000 households will gain greater reductions in their gas bills. This model was followed last winter as well.
Gas prices for residential consumers have almost increased tenfold compared to 2020. Based on available data, competitive fuel charges exceed 0.10 euros per kilowatt hour, when in 2020 they ranged from 0.015 to 0.020 euros per kilowatt hour.
The estimates even speak of prices that are expected to be in October at the levels of 0.22 to 0.24 euros per kilowatt hour.
Also, thousands of households have little room for alternative sources of heating, given that by choosing natural gas they proceeded to deforest the equipment for the use of oil.
