José María del Nido Carrasco, vice president of Sevilla FC, appeared on Tuesday night on both Cadena Ser and Cadena Cope, both nationwide, to offer his version, and therefore that of the Nervionense club, about what happened on Sunday in El Gran Derbi against Real Betis at Benito Villamarín. Del Nido Carrasco emphasized the tifo, approved by the Government Subdelegation at the security meeting held the week before the derby, while Sevilla was in Manchester to play against Guardiola’s City: “From minute , it is exhibited a tifo in which our general sports director appears, our player Joan Jordán and a stick, apologizing for the violence of what happened on January 15 in the Cup derby.
Then he unleashed the string of insults against Monchi. This fact is categorical because it defends a violent act. It is categorically false that Sevilla knew about the typhoid until we saw it when they took it out. Real Betis Balompié seems inadmissible to me that they proposed the exhibition of a tifo in which violence is advocated. This has to be authorized by the local computer. José María Cruz de Andrés, our general director, was at that meeting. And it is flatly false that we knew and accepted that typhus. The one that authorizes it or presents authorization for the exhibition of that tifo is Real Betis », he explained.
In addition, the Sevilla leader gave an account of what had happened since the arrival of the Sevilla expedition, with President José Castro, Monchi and himself at the head, at the Benito Villamarín stadium: «Since the arrival at the stadium, several Betis employees they rebuke, insult Ramón Rodríguez Verdejo, Monchi. During the game, people outside the box insulted him, those were fans. Those inside the box are invited by Real Betis Balompié. Inside the box there were also insults towards Monchi. When the game ends, Monchi goes out onto the pitch, he assures me that the referees are already in his locker room. Monchi has a free movement pass as a club employee. Real Betis players, technicians, workers and even a counselor insulted Monchi. He tells her a couple of times “you’re a clown, you’re a clown.” Monchi has to put up with these violent situations and I show, on my own behalf and that of Sevilla FC, all my support for Ramón Rodríguez Verdejo, Monchi, who is a worker at Sevilla FC. He was being kicked off the lawn and while he was on his way to our locker room he was the target of insults, threats and harassment.”
Questioned about Sevilla’s response to Betis’ decision not to invite Monchi to Benito Villamarín’s box again in upcoming derbies, Del Nido Carrasco assured that “I am convinced, very convinced, that Real Betis Balompié and its leaders are going to rise to the occasion of sights and will have the responsibility of not deciding Monchi’s veto to the box. If that were to occur, we would be forced to take measures of the same proportion against our criteria. We have no official communication that Real Betis is not going to invite Monchi to their box in future derbies.”
He was asked directly if in Seville they will ask Monchi to calm down, and Del Nido Carrasco commented on an anecdote starring the Betis president Ángel Haro: «For me, Monchi’s behavior in the box was perfect from what I saw and asked him. An anecdote, when Borja Iglesias was sent off in the 48th minute, president Ángel Haro left the box very nervous. I look at Pepe and ask him if Ángel had left the box and everyone there was looking at us. I don’t know if it could be typical nerves of this type of game. I have known Monchi for 25 years. He finished the game, came down as he always does at home and away and greeted our fans. I don’t give importance to him because he does it naturally. He does not do it to annoy anyone ».
These other issues were also answered by José María del Nido Carrasco:
Do you want any more derby this season in Europe or in the Copa del Rey? – “We Sevillians, both Betis and Sevilla fans, say that although for us it is the best derby in the world, the best are those that are not disputed. The derbies, if they are less, the better. That they be more I think they should not be ».
Who commands more in Sevilla, José Castro or Monchi? – “In Sevilla there is a management committee that has eight members and it is that committee that rules. Monchi has full freedom in his sports area and then his decisions go through the management committee ».
