Wearing the ’10’ and the captain’s armband, James Rodríguez scored on his return to the Colombian national team, in a friendly win (4-1) over Guatemala.
“James surprised even me,” said Colombia’s 56-year-old Argentine national coach, Nestor Lorenzo, of the 63 minutes James Rodriguez, who “opened the scoring” against Guatemala, was on the pitch.
With this goal, James Rodríguez “caught” Arnoldo Iguaran in second place on the Colombian all-time scorers table with 25 goals. He is now chasing Radamel Falcao and is ten goals away from him.
“We know he’s not at his best, but nobody can deny the quality he has. His performance was very good, as was the whole team’s and we are happy,” added the new coach of the Colombian national team.
Hames posted a message on Instagram after the win, expressing his satisfaction at the new start. “We are embarking on this new process with great excitement,” he wrote.
