THEscored the first year in FP1 of the US GP. Behind him Verstappen and Hamilton.
The F1-75 proved to be very fast at COTA this morning and especially in its slow third sector. Of course, it is too early to draw firm conclusions. However, it is one of the few times that Ferrari has excelled at such corners this year.
Half the teams decided to give place for young – or reserve – drivers during FP1. Shwartzman took Leclerc’s place at Ferrari, Ricciardo’s Palou at McLaren, Latifi’s Sargeant at Williams, Bottas’ Pourchaire at Alfa Romeo andof Magnussen at Haas.
The latter would cause red flag in the first quarter after exiting turn 6. In the first half hour Thehe had recorded the best time on the soft rubber. Behind him – also with soft – Sainz, Perez and Vettel.
The rest chose the medium or hard rubber initially. The Mercedes and Ferrari they decided to collect and aerodynamic performance elements of their cars during FP1. Similar work was done by Alpine with her new floor.
In the second half of the process all pilots switched to soft rubber. The result was that the times continued to drop. Sainz was one of the first who attempted a fast lap and climbed to the top early on.
The Spaniard would remain there until the end of the process. Verstappen, Hamilton, Stroll and Perez ranked behind him. In FP2, the Pirelli tire test will take place for 2023.
