Billionaire Elon Musk said his agreement to take over Twitter was “temporarily pending” due to spam and fake social media accounts.
Musk, who last week secured $ 7 billion from new investors to take over the company, a $ 44 billion acquisition, wrote on Twitter: “The Twitter deal is temporarily suspended, pending details to support the calculation that the accounts False accounts for less than 5% of users ”.
He later posted on Twitter: “I’m still engaged in purchasing.”
The richest man in the world, the CEO of Tesla Inc., said that if his acquisition went through changes, they would be related to the removal of spam and fake accounts from the platform.
Musk has repeatedly stated that he wants Twitter to be a platform for free speech. It also took into account the implementation of new features such as an edit button and the ability to post longer tweets.
The company had estimated earlier this month that the number of fake accounts accounted for less than 5% of its daily active and monetizable users in the first quarter. Musk is now waiting for confirmation of this percentage and is currently putting the purchase on hold.
