A cleaner gave birth to a healthy baby in a KAT basin, with the delivery taking place during working hours, as she was on shift, while she stated that she did not know she was pregnant.
“I had a fever and went to the outpatient clinic. Then I thought I wanted to do the other and the baby came out,” she said characteristically on the show “Live News” and added that “I didn’t even know I was pregnant. The day I gave birth, I felt it. I felt intense pain. I was on the morning shift.”
So on Thursday morning, the woman has just given birth in a basin in the KAT toilet. Distraught, the doctors, not knowing exactly what had happened, saw her coming out of the toilet covered in blood.
“Suddenly he came out of a toilet and the head of the ward and colleagues found there that he had blood. They were taken to the toilet and found the baby in the pelvis with a detached placenta”, said the president of POEDIN, Michalis Giannakos.
“We moved quickly with the doctors and nurses, looked for the mother and the newborn and did a quick management. We are not a hospital that has gynecology/obstetrics obviously. We had a concern about the baby. For us it was a surprise because usually children are not born in the emergency room”, said a doctor who was in front of the incident on the Mega show.
“After he tied the umbilical cord and I saw that the baby reacted, we started a process of managing both the mother and the little one to take them to the most suitable health formation which was “Elena”. We managed to complete all this in an hour,” he added afterwards.
